Farmer’s box Review

I had been thinking for a couple of years to subscribe to these services, where you receive a box of fresh fruits/veggies a week directly from the farm, but still couldn’t quite gather the courage to do so. It felt so “hippie” that it scared me.
Well, after years of thinking about it I finally figured I should at least try it! I subscribed a couple of weeks ago and got my first box last week. Here’s what happened.
I got to pick it up not too far from my neighbourhood. I ordered a small box for about 25$ which consisted mostly of veggies (they advertised a veggie box, so that’s okay). Here is what it looked like out of the box.
Here’s what was in the box:
- 1 head of lettuce
- A couple of pounds of tomatoes
- 1 celery
- 3-4 mild peppers
- A medium bag of peas
- about 4-5 brocoli crowns
- a pack of strawberries
- 2 cucumbers
- A bunch of leeks.
I have to say I was thrilled to receive this first order, and that all fruits and veggies were as delicious as if I had grown them in my own garden (but bigger and nicer). I even did a taste test between my garden-grown tomatoes and the ones I got and they tasted as good. Nothing compared to what I used to buy at Whole Foods at a hefty price. This at WF would probably have cost at least 35$ and wouldn’t have been as delicious, nor as fresh.
Overall, this was probably one of the best “tries” I did this year. So glad of my decision to go past my own (and peer) judgement and go for the freshness instead!
If you’ve been pondering whether subscribing to such a service I really encourage you to do so. You will not regret it!
